Oxford is a university in Oxford city, England. This is the most ancient university countries using English. According to classification of  The Times in 2007, , this is the best university in U.K and North Ireland.Oxford University is one of the most well-known universities on the world. It had 48 people, who win the Nobel prizes, are the ex-students and professors. Oxford University has 39 (college);each college has an individual structure and activity.


Organizational Structure:

Oxford University is a kind of university including many constituting colleges; it can be considered that is a united including 39 colleges and 7 halls; both of these colleges are self – managing, but there is a general office of management that is led by Deputy Director.

Faculties and majors are located on this organization and not belonged to any university. Subjects are done research, provided lecturing support, organized presentation and conference sessions. Study programs and lectures are composed by the very faculties. These colleges are based on them and make organization train students. Members of faculties work at other colleges. Otherwise, some colleges have own strength; in common, colleges have many majors.

Material faculty for teaching and study such as library with many levels: Bodleian central library, library of faculty (library of English, library of Biology,…), library of university. These libraries are general libraries

Training – teaching and Diploma

Training – teaching at university is major based on kind of remedial study in which each professor take responsibility for 1 to 4 students working 1 hour per week that is belonged to major and content session for an essay or an exercise.

Every week, students often have 2 sessions like this kind. Professors can change sessions which is based on requirement of subjects or majors from other colleges at Oxford University. Additionally, students take supplementary courses by lecture listening sessions, official sessions and conference with standards of subjects.

Students at higher education level are often instructed by official sessions and conference, but they focus on personal research.

Colleges take responsibility for organizing exams and issuing diploma. To gain the level 1 diploma, students must pass 2 exams. The first exam is called the primary examination which is organized in the end of the first school-year or after 2 semesters of student in Law major, after 5 semesters of students in Classical Humanity major. The second exam is organized at the end of course.

Students will receive degrees of first class honours, degrees of upper second class honours or degrees of third class honours that are based on the result of exam. Colleges also issue degrees of M.A or M.S and degrees of PhD all majors at university level.



Each school-year is divided into 3 semesters which are based on regulations of university: Michaelmas semester from October to December, Hilary semester from January to March and Trinity semester from April to June.

In these semesters, council of university will decide that each school-year will have 8 weeks called Full Terms – it is the training and teaching time of university program; it is shorter than other universities’ one in United Kingdom. Therefore, students must study hard on holidays (Christmas, Easter and long holidays).

Time of semester is based on the time starting semester; it means the week, when starts the Full Terms, is called the first week; and the ending week is the eighth week.
